What is Philosophy
Philosophy is the word made from the Latin roots Phil(=love) & Sophos(= wisdom), meaning its love of wisdom. Now a philosopher is obviously a lover of wisdom. To elaborate in a few words a philosopher is not satisfied with the normal or there is an embedded frustration somewhere in his mind to know something more than what is easy with the naked eyes. So he ambulates in his mind unceasingly to find the answer to his inner satisfaction. There is an incessant struggle with his consciousness and subconsciousness. There is an endless search for a more clear reality which he unconsciously always strives for it.
Nowadays, the coined word "Philosophy" is twisted & molded by the people as per their own uses & requirements, if they don't like something in it then a new version is released as per taste :).It has taken a new avatar as "Religion". Now there are no offenses for any religion but that also has become much polluted with time. So philosophy & religion have lost their real meaning and everyone takes everything for granted which has been handed over to them since their birth, means nothing more to accomplish as they have started living with the societal rules & regulations with a hundred percent belief in it. So no further inquiry is left for them to ponder upon and solve, now this is exactly contrary to the definition of philosophy I mention at the starting.
Also, religion is taken from its roots which simply means " to join". Joining means to join the divine, reality, truth & wisdom. In reality, no one is willing to dig the truth out for himself, all are just drinking the water from the well dug out for them many years ago from one who had found the truth for himself. This difference is not easily cognitive in today's world. Religion is just a few sets of practices and rituals that one has to fulfill as a legacy carried on from their ancestors and they are done away for the day, that's it!. Simply we don't know anything about it and just perform it like many other duties in life. Religion is right but the way we follow it is wrong as we follow everything blindly with no meaning or understanding of it anyway like just a duty of a cow to give milk daily.
So philosophy & also religion is not a thing to be taken for granted and belief, it's thing more to experience inside you. I mean you must live by it and never be satisfied with the common knowledge which society has given us in legacy. As belief is dangerous to growth, untruth throttles you and binds your hands and legs not do anything but just eat the grass on your lawn throughout your life. Such attitude vegetates a man and he is like a rote learned parrot without any experience of his own.
Our prophets were true philosophers, the lover of wisdom. We had prophets in every religion whom we follow till this day but if you have understood even a speck of philosophy from my above words then you can make out that these were the people who were iconoclasts and whatever they had taught was their own direct experience and not just some second-hand experience. After their own direct experience, they taught people not to form a flock of sheep but to struggle with their hints and become a butterfly by coming out of their cocoon and being reborn again into a new form and new experience.
So be alert and active and also try to understand everything in your own ways. Inquire it always until u can satisfy your own self. As philosophy is a thing to live by it. A philosopher is never free, he is always engaged in finding the truth on his own and along with the crests and troughs of time, something very different and a new person born out of himself and his old self dies completely. Verily indeed it is truly said that "To be born again, you must die".
